Dear Students, Parents and Teachers, We are excited to begin the 2010-2011 school year. The first day of school is August 24th and teachers report August 16th. If you are already enrolled for the upcoming school year you should receive a newsletter by August 15th, which will include valuable information related to start times, schedules and transportation. Guidance counselors and administrators are on hand throughout the day to assist new enrollments. Please feel free to stop by our offices between 8:00am and 3:00 pm if you need
assistance.
Open House and Freshmen Orientation will be held on August 17th. Freshmen Orientation is from 4:30-5:30 and Open House is from 5:30-7:30. We are asking that ALL families attend. As always, please call 813-872-5300 if you have any questions. For a complete list of calendar events please click here.

Leto HS parents and students can now receive progress reports online any time. All students have received an activation code so they can login to view grades, missing assignments, receive important class news and more. Students also received an activation code to share with parents so they too can login to monitor student work and better communicate with teachers.

We Love our Teachers!

This May Mr. Fernandez and the rest of the administration team paid a special THANK YOU to the wonderful teachers at Leto HS. Mr. fernandez, Jack Toohey, Rob Melendi and Rick Sumner worked their grilling magic, as they prepared fresh pork, chicken and portabella mushrooms on a natural wood smoker. Teachers were also presented with commemorative pins and a word of thanks from the principal. A special "thank you" goes out to Charlie Brink and the Brink Foundation, PTSA and the Nizol family, Chef Hladky and the Culinary program, and of course....our totally awesome Leto HS teachers!!! Leto Students take Flight!

Leto High School celebrated its inaugural First Flight Recognition Day on November 19th. Students who received high honors and honors on their 9 week report cards were honored with DJ recognition and tickets in a prize drawing. Special guests were students nominated by teachers for outstanding character in and out of the classroom. The First Flight special guests were given a separate lunch during 5th period and the opportunity to receive valuable prizes, including thumb drives and other school supplies. All students were able to take part in the music and festivities during the 4th and 6th period lunches. The recognition was made possible through generosity of the Brink family. A special

The Transportation Department wishes to notify all parents of the many mediums by which you can access bus run information for your child before school starts. Please click below for a complete list of bus stop locations specific to Leto HS. Additionally, this bus run information is also available at http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 872-5300 where we will be happy to answer any questions you have. Please remember, if you have an ESE child receiving specialized bus services, your bus driver will be contacting you later in August with specific bus stop locations, times, and bust numbers.

As part of our outstanding Law Studies program, Leto students attended Juvenile Court, Violation of Probabtion Court. Students sat in on a major trial and experience "Law & Orde" first hand.

For the first time in history, Leto HS has been recognized by Newsweek magazine as one of the top schools in the nation. In part due to its Advanced Placement magnet program (MAPS), Leto's achievement can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of its staff, faculty, the students and their families. We are very proud and look forward to soaring even higher!

Culinary takes Gold
|
|
The Leto HS culinary arts program has placed 1st in the district-wide competition for the fourth consecutive year and then followed this up by winning State!! Students participating in the competition include Kassandra Gutierrez, Bernadette Negron and Ashley Torres. The team will now compete at the national competition. Good luck Falcon chefs!!!

New National Board Teachers!

Congratulations to our new National Board Teachers! This November three teachers at leto HS received the highest level of teacher distinction, National Board Certification. They include Mr. Collins (Math), Mr. Petkash (English), and Mr. Hagenmeier (Social Studies). Thank you for your hard work teachers!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jesse Miller and Mr. Jon Bassett, Leto High School's recycling coordinators! Thanks to their leadership, Leto was recognized as the district's top recycling school.
